Fisherman - Writers Island Prompt 21

This was written for Writer's Island
prompt 21 - Fisherman

. . There is stillness on the banks
. . . . . . ..... . ..... . .of the flat shallow lake
. . . . . . ..... . beneath the towering branches
. . . . . . ..... . under the wide open skies
. . . . . .with the sun beating down
. . . and the gentle rain falling
and the birds singing

he sits and whistles
. . . . . . and he watches
. . . . . . ..... . and he waits

and the watching sky is full of silk
. . . and the spinning threads reach down
. . . . . . . . . . ..... . .and wind him round, binding him
. . . . . . . . . . . ...weaving him into the tapestry
. . . . . . ..... . in readiness for the cocoon
. . . . that will give him back
when the day is done

What a peaceful poem. I'm not a fisherperson but this made me want to be in that place you painted in words.

What a beautiful, soothing poem, Susannah! And I love the way it's printed on the page. It's visually very pleasing. I especially like "the watching sky is full of silk and the spinning threads reach down and wind him round."

Soft and gentle, like the quiet ebb and flow of water to shore, and the form of the poem mimicing just that as well. Especially like your final stanza. I am a fisher person and coming back to shore after a day on the water is like being awakened, from a lulling dream. You capture that beautifully,

Elizabeth

The poem is a picture, and I don't just mean the form. I am seeing a rainbow, with the sun and the gentle rain. Lovely.

Delightfully simple and yet beguiling. The gentle depiction of the scene serves the power of the final stanza so well.

great rhythm in the sounds, accented, of course with the visual pattern.

luv everything abt this picture... fishing is such state of mind as yr poem reflects... bringing out the sky enfolding him in the sky cocoon... a beautiful beginning, a middle to wander and then the end of the day... and then the form complements the mood... pescador
