Reverie - Magpie Tale 35

Magpie Tales hosts a weekly writing prompt, the challenge is
to write a small vignette or poem using the photo below as your inspiration.

R E V E R I E
Beneath the fluttering wings
of this red gold leaf blown afternoon
lie the soft white feathers of memory
drifting down on the breeze like seeds
looking for fertile ground to take root
and they find it in my willing earth
and all at once it is another time
and that eager upturned face
and those sparkling eyes
belong once again to me
and I am back home
and you are there
. . . . .

I loved reading the Magpies here so far. Do you miss the summer, I wonder? I long for it as much as anyone would, really. I loved yours too!

Wanna see my Magpie? It's at http://thelunaticsdiary.blogspot.com

Susannah, I really enjoyed this poem and your arrangement of it. Autumn seems to bring out the warmth in writers, don't you think?

I love how you rejoice autumn as a return to earth, a new start. Beautiful

A lovely lyrical poem with so much feeling. And I love its shape on the page, too. Does this type of 'shapely' poem have a name?

Wonderful magpie... I could feel the warmth of the colors... calling one to root again to the earth and to each other.

Lovely.

".. red gold leaf blown afternoon.."

this creates the perfect setting without any telling the season.

Mary, I agree, Ithink the colours of Autumn are such an inspiration, there is wonder every where you look at this time of year.

Rinkly Rimes, apparently the name for shaped poems are calligrams, I didn't know this until someone mentioned it in the comments section of one of my other poems recently.

Most calligrams are in the shape of the thing they are describing, such as a leaf etc.

Mine are usually just a pleasing shape on the page, I don't start out to make them shaped but when I notice they are, I sometimes tweak a little, this one really needs something else in the first line to complete the shape but I had to try not to get obsessive and to just live with it. lol

Thanks everyone for the great comments.

Susannah :-)

A lovely shape for an accomplished poem.

Rinkly-Rimes . . . shaped poems are sometimes referred to a "concrete" poems . . . but that seems an unkind epithet to apply to the delicate writing here.

I am glad to have discovered you, that is, not discovered exactly, others have done so before me, but I really like what I find.
I am following you; if you should find my blog as enjoyable as I find yours, perhaps you'd like to follow me too.
If not, well, you won't.

I like your reverie, the form, the wings and feathers, memory falling in, and especially, I love the ending, such a warm feeling this memory leaves behind. Beautifully written.

The rhythm of this poem actually falls like a maple leaf. I don't know if you intended that but it gently descends. Very, very nice.
