Beneath - inspired by Writers Island prompt #24

Inspired by prompt 24 envision and this image from Writers Island

B
E N E A T H

behind the image, another layer
always much more than meets the eye
layer upon layer, each appearing solid until
you peel them away to reveal the one beneath
the onion skins keep going, one on top of the other
each revealing another reality, another truth, another
level of understanding, shifting focus, malleable, magicians
in the making, pulling rabbits out of hats, realities from expectation
scene shifters, movie makers, stage set designers, projectionists, humans.

I do like the direction you went with this prompt. And you made your point so very poetically with so many interesting examples.

I just love this poem, Susannah. I particularly like the onion skins!

After reading this was questioning why we humans have that need for layered meanings, one atop another. Perhaps because of our inclination toward hierarchy? Well-developed poem and structure.
