Can I hitch a ride
to the other side?
I'll pay you in glee
(and things you can't see)
I'll listen to your fears
(we can shed a few tears)
I'll lend you my phone
(so you can call home)
I'll be your best friend
(until we get to the end)
I'll be company for you
(until we make it through)
I'll sit by your side
while we take the ride.
I'll pay you in glee
(and things you can't see)
I'll listen to your fears
(we can shed a few tears)
I'll lend you my phone
(so you can call home)
I'll be your best friend
(until we get to the end)
I'll be company for you
(until we make it through)
I'll sit by your side
while we take the ride.

The rhythm made me think of 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' but I am guessing the destination may be a little different..that little boat is always less lonely with a friend..Jae
Makes me wonder where the ride is to. But good to be going with a friend.
Nice, nice poem. Reminded me of old Sir Harry Lauder's song "Keep right on to the end of the road"
A good friend to walk life's road with you is a great blessing.
The feeling of friendship and company on the journey is lovely. I particularly like the bracketed comments after each promise.
What a fun poem! Light and lively, much like traveling with a good friend. It was on my second read through that I started to wonder...could this also have been about not just a journey, but our very last journey?
Nice job!
There is not a lot of fun travelling alone. Experiences are to be shared and are far more enjoyable that way. I loved this little trip with you.
Thanks everybody for your comments, much appreciated. x
I love it. This should be the international friendship hymn. :)
so sweet and kind. my last boyfriend was a hitch-hiker and provided the driver with glee and life-long friendship. alas, we no longer hike together.
Amanda and Marsha, thanks for your comments. :-) Good to see you both.
I'll come along too!
