Just a Matter of Time

Inspired by Three Word Wednesday this week's prompt words are buckle, evade, wedge

Just a Matter of Time

He tightened his buckle

trying to evade my gaze

eyes anywhere but me

the big clock was ticking

time dripping, eroding

the soft swaddling fabric

that we had used to disguise

the huge wedge, driven deep

into the tiny hairline cracks

that had now opened up

wider than a chasm

I like how you use fabric as a metaphor. And "time dripping" is a great image.

'time dripping'...just like your brilliantly measured words..a little sad but so engaging and recognisable..Jae

Disguising a chasm with swaddling clothes...hmm...I wonder lots of possibilities here, but the real tragedy is apparent.

That fabric can be so filmy... flimsy. It takes great effort to weave something more solid and protective.

Beautiful. Love the use of the swaddling cloth, which is suppossed to keep one safe and secure, as some sort of bandage to try to hold something together.

It doesn't take much to cause an avalanche from hair line cracks.
Good use of metaphor and an interesting poem.
