I Have - Magpie Tales # 31

http://magpietales.blogspot.com hosts a weekly writing prompt, write a small vignette or poem using the photo below as your inspiration.

I H A V E

I have closed my eyes
and cut the ties
that bind me
to you

I have snipped and
cauterised the
fraying ends
with fire

I have asked forgiveness
for the hurt I caused
and I have forgiven
you in turn

I have mentally released
you and said goodbye
but it seems you
have never left

Very touching and I'm sure therapeutic, too. Well done.

I so want these lines to be the start of another poem! Please? :)

Jinksy - ooh, I agree, thank you! I may just do that. :-)

Some impressions go deep, don't they? Excellent poem.

Sort of like a dress rehearsal..the right words..still there, to be done again? Very good.

So beautifully written. Real love that ends it never truly leaves us no matter what extent we go to "cauterize the fraying ends."

Strong piece. Sometimes it requires constant re-doing.

I agree with Jinsky :) Do another with that phrase in the poem, see what happens then.

This is great. I love the specific medical terms to elaborate on the phrase cutting the ties. Nicely done.

i wish i could cauterize some ends too... i loved the imagery of cutting the ends and cauterizing them... we often cut our bindings but they still bleed don't they?

I like the way your thoughts were shaped, like a chalice.

A lovely and peaceful work.

Have I read too much into the final lines? The poem strongly describes an emotional ending, a cutting off "...cauterised the
fraying ends..." But that was while the eyes were closed. In the ending, "but it seems you
have never left". The disgarded other is still (physically) there!
Move out! :-)

... there are ties not meant to be broken.

That final line grabbed me by the heart. Some people, well, they're just always with us. Wonderful, Susannah.
